Daughter of The King

To the Daughter of The King

We recently found a letter pinned to a dress at Dresstravaganza that was addressed as:  To the Daughter of The King.  The phrase has been bouncing around my head for several weeks and today I decided it was meant to be a jumping off point to a blog or an article or a bible study meant for young women ages 18-25 or so, those impacted and cherished by Dresstravaganza.  So here it goes and lets see where God takes it.

So, what does it mean to be a daughter of The King?  How?  When do I get my crown?  Do I have to move to another country?  It all sounds kind of crazy, right?  Well, it isn’t referring to some far off and exotic land . . . bummer!  Well, not really.  It is actually WAY more amazing and greater than that!  The reference is to God being the King of Kings and that he loves you and accepts you just the way you are.  He knows everything about you and still is proud to call you his daughter.  Since he created all living things, you are his child and by this, the daughter of The King of Kings.  That is pretty awesome, if you ask me.

Let’s look at it this way.  In the Bible (John 15:16), Jesus is teaching his disciples (his twelve closest friends).  This is what he says to them.

John 15:16

The Message (MSG)
16 “You didn’t choose me, remember; I chose you, and put you in the world to bear fruit, fruit that won’t spoil. As fruit bearers, whatever you ask the Father in relation to me, he gives you.

Alright?!?!   Cool I guess, but I’m not one of Jesus’ closest friends!  Why would he care about me enough to call me his daughter?  In Psalms 139: 13-17 this is what it says:

Psalm 139:13-17

Contemporary English Version (CEV)
13 You are the one
who put me together
    inside my mother’s body,
14 and I praise you
    because of
the wonderful way
    you created me.
Everything you do is marvelous!
Of this I have no doubt.
15 Nothing about me
    is hidden from you!
I was secretly woven together
    deep in the earth below,
16 but with your own eyes
    you saw
    my body being formed.
Even before I was born,
you had written in your book
    everything I would do.
17 Your thoughts are far beyond
    my understanding,
    much more than I
    could ever imagine.

It even says in Matthew 10:30 that he knows the number of hairs on our head!  That’s amazing!  What if we looked at this from a different perspective?  What if God were to write us a letter, a letter that would explain our princess role as seen through his eyes?  I think it might go something like this:

To my daughter,

I want you to know how beautiful you are to me.  I adore you!  You are not a pretend princess, my child.  You are the real deal and I am your God, THE KING of Kings.  I chose you before you were even born.  I carefully chose the color of your eyes and the highlights in your hair.  I care about you so much that I even know exactly how many hairs are on your head.  Don’t ever try to be someone else, you are prefect just being you.  You are special and I have chosen you to do great things.  I have amazing plans for you now and in years to come.  If you read my words everyday, I will teach you all you need to know about living as a daughter of THE King.

Love you so much!

Your King and Father in Heaven

Pretty cool, in my opinion.  So what does it mean to you to be a daughter of the king?  Do you have questions or doubts or do you want more information about claiming your royal throne?  We would love to talk with you and pray with you!  Feel free to get ahold of us!

Why do brides need help?

Well it's Thursday. . . time for a #TBT fromDresstravaganza I want to introduce you to Kylie. . . she is an amazing woman and we were truly honored to help her create a dream wedding.

I've had many people ask why would a bride need help? They should have been preparing for this special day or family should help?

I think Kylie's story explains it all! Sometimes making dreams come true just doesn't allow much time to plan!

We were able to not only help Kylie with her wedding but go on to help her get her GED, go back to school to become a professional nail tech.

This created a full circle where she was able to come and volunteer her nail services back into the Dresstravaganza program for local teens! SO AWESOME! It give me chills! Thank you Kylie for sharing your story!

You have a beautiful family now and have been a blessing to so many even through the struggles and pain and we are blessed to know you!  Almost five years down and a lifetime to go!  Thank you to those who donated a dream dress and so much more to Kylie!  If a pair of shoes can change a life, think what a dress can do!

How to donate a wedding dress!

Did you know that we are building a wedding program to be able to help bride's in need who may otherwise not be able to afford to wear a wedding gown on their special day?  We need to have 100 dresses to start the program and we are at 25.  If you have a dress that is just collecting dust, would you consider dusting it off and helping to make dreams come true?

There are so many beautiful dresses that are just collecting dust!  Let's work together to get this program up and going!  This is our 6th year helping local teens with prom and to date we have outfitted over 750 deserving young ladies!  We recently were blessed with a beautiful 2700 square foot store front inside the Boise Outlets. . .  we have dreamed of opening this program for years and now have the space to do so and to do it in style!

We just recently received this beautiful David's Bridal size 20 gown and matching veil from a local lady!  We have also had dresses donated from all across the USA.  It is easy to ship them.  We suggest removing the hanger and all paper forms . . fold and roll it into the smallest size possible. . . place inside a plastic bag and the smallest box possible.  We will clean, steam and press the dress upon receiving it and it will look brand new again.  I promise!

What's your prom dress story?

  • We received this beautiful note from a past Dresstravaganza
recipient!  We thought you would enjoy.  We are all on a journey and all have dynamic events happening in our lives.  We are so thankful we were able to help you and make your dreams come true!
    • In 2011 (my senior year) my parents went through a horrible divorce leaving my mom and I homeless. Months before my graduation I moved to a new school. Needless to say my senior year was devastating and I had no desire to even think about trying to afford prom or trying to find a date among hundreds of people I didn't know. But my childhood friend asked me to prom  leaving me with the stress and desire to find a gorgeous dress and too look amazing (because who doesn't want to impress their prom date?) So my darling loving mom found
      • Dresstravaganza And took me to find a dress the next day. After trying on several gorgeous dresses and being treated like a princess, I found the most beautiful gold and maroon ball gown. I felt excited for prom for the first time.  now 3 years after my prom date and I are getting married. All the girls at dresstravaganza made my dream come true. Thank you girls so much. You have touched many hearts.
